BELLAGUARDIA Millenovecento20 — Pinot Bianco Pas Dosé, Traditional Method
BELLAGUARDIA Millenovecento20 — Pinot Bianco Pas Dosé, Traditional Method
On the southern slopes of the hill crowned by the castles of Romeo and Juliet, in Montecchio Maggiore, Veneto, Italy, BELLAGUARDIA Millenovecento20 Pinot Bianco Pas Dosé preserves and reinterprets a winemaking heritage dating back to 1920, when grapes grown on the Bellaguardia hillside were already producing acclaimed, award-winning sparkling wines. More than a century later, this legacy finds renewed expression in the pure Pinot Bianco of the Belvedere cru, situated 200 metres above sea level on calcareous clay-loam soils. Millenovecento20 thus emerges from the relationship between a clearly defined place and a tradition worth preserving, transforming its historical inspiration into a contemporary statement of identity, elegance and depth.
Hand-harvested grapes, carefully collected in crates, are cooled in the estate's medieval caves before gentle whole-cluster pressing, with a must yield limited to 50%, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. Secondary fermentation in the bottle initiates more than 40 months of maturation on selected lees, again in the medieval caves, followed by over a year of further ageing after disgorgement. The Pas Dosé approach, combined with no addition of sulphites at disgorgement, allows the character of Pinot Bianco to emerge without a final sugar adjustment. Time becomes an essential part of the wine's development: not merely a means of creating complexity, but a defining influence on its harmony, aromatic depth and exceptionally refined texture.
In the glass, reflections of antique gold and a fine, persistent mousse introduce an intense, beautifully layered aromatic profile. Thyme and marjoram intertwine with candied citron, while delicate elderflower, white pepper and a subtle, incense-like smoky nuance reveal a distinctive maturity. The palate opens with vibrant freshness, suggestions of ripe fruit and a carefully balanced savoury dimension that supports the structure without adding weight. Citrus impressions merge with evolved aromatic nuances in a long, precise and inviting finish, where maturity does not diminish the wine's energy but broadens its expressive range.
BEYOND* — Where Heritage Becomes Identity. Millenovecento20 goes beyond commemorating a chapter in Bellaguardia's sparkling wine history: it offers a contemporary interpretation through the purity of Pinot Bianco, the distinctive character of the Belvedere cru and a patient approach to the Traditional Method. Its singularity lies in the ability to reconcile freshness with maturity, varietal precision with evolved complexity, without imposing unnecessary embellishment upon the wine's natural character. For BEYOND*, it embodies the enduring value of a heritage expressed through terroir, considered winemaking and the passage of time: a living legacy transformed into authentic vinous individuality.

Sensory profile
APPEARANCE
Deep straw yellow with luminous antique-gold reflections and fine, closely spaced, persistent bubbles. The golden hue described by Bellaguardia in its more evolved expression is also reflected in the AIS Veneto assessment of the 2016 vintage. The lively effervescence creates a refined visual impression, where colour depth and precision of the mousse anticipate a wine that combines aromatic maturity with a distinctly energetic character.
NOSE
The producer's characteristic notes of thyme, marjoram, candied citron, elderflower, white pepper and incense-like smoke meet the nuances documented by AIS Veneto: linden blossom, fern, bitter orange, apple compote, cinnamon, puff pastry and hazelnut. The resulting aromatic spectrum moves between herbs, flowers, citrus and delicate pastry impressions. Evolved complexity brings additional depth without obscuring fruit definition or the refined varietal character of Pinot Bianco.
PALATE
A lively opening reveals well-defined freshness, accompanied by ripe-fruit impressions and citrus nuances. The savoury character described by the producer provides measured support, while the absence of dosage highlights the wine's precise palate definition. AIS Veneto characterises the 2016 vintage as gentle, harmonious and consistent with its aromatic expression. The overall profile combines energy with tactile softness, retaining a distinctly dry finish and a carefully balanced progression.
BALANCE & STRUCTURE
Structure rests on the natural continuity of pure Pinot Bianco, supported by freshness and the texture developed during lees maturation. The Pas Dosé approach reveals the relationship between acidity, substance and effervescence, while evolved aromatic components add further complexity. Balance emerges through a finely integrated texture, in which maturity never overwhelms palate precision and the savoury dimension contributes to the wine's overall depth.
EVOLUTION IN THE GLASS
With gentle aeration and a gradual rise in temperature, floral and citrus notes may reveal deeper nuances of aromatic herbs, candied fruit, pastry and nuts, as documented across the available tasting records. As the initial effervescence settles, the wine's texture and savoury character become more apparent. This evolution rewards attentive tasting, while recognising that individual bottles and vintages may express different aspects of the documented aromatic spectrum.
FINISH
Long, precise and sustained by freshness that preserves the wine's energy despite its evolved character. Citrus and ripe-fruit impressions accompany a measured savoury dimension, while delicate herbal and spicy nuances may extend its aromatic complexity. The finish remains distinctly dry and inviting, with the producer emphasising a particularly engaging persistence that encourages another sip.
SENSORY IDENTITY
Millenovecento20 expresses Pinot Bianco from the Belvedere cru through a deliberately mature interpretation of the Traditional Method. Lees maturation and subsequent post-disgorgement ageing contribute to a profile where flowers, aromatic herbs, citrus and autolytic nuances coexist with a pronounced sense of freshness. The Pas Dosé approach, together with no addition of sulphites at disgorgement, reinforces a restrained winemaking philosophy in which time enhances varietal identity rather than replacing it.
SERVING TEMPERATURE
8–10°C. (46–50°F.), allowing the wine to rise gradually towards 10–12°C. (50–54°F.) in the glass to reveal its more mature aromatic components. A generously proportioned tulip glass or an elegant white wine glass is recommended to showcase both the fine mousse and the layered bouquet. Excessive chilling may suppress the spicy, herbal and lees-derived nuances that distinguish this evolved interpretation.
BEYOND* INTERPRETATION
Millenovecento20 translates the sparkling wine heritage of the Bellaguardia hillside and the character of the Belvedere cru, in Montecchio Maggiore, Veneto, Italy, into a distinctive sensory expression. Pure Pinot Bianco, calcareous soils and patient maturation establish a dialogue between varietal precision and aromatic maturity. For BEYOND, its distinction lies in making the passage of time perceptible without sacrificing the wine's vitality: a Traditional Method sparkling wine in which heritage, origin and evolution become a recognisable identity.
